Temperatures for the month averaged 1.7C above normal at my station, with only 6 days during the month that were below normal. Daily highs averaged a warm 27.8C, with only 5 days failing to reach at least 25.0C Rainfall for the month was 102.9 mm, about 30 mm above normal, which belies the relative dryness of the month. The overall rain total was heavily influenced by a 70 mm rainfall event during the evening of July 4th when heavy thunderstorms moved acoss the city. Other than that, rainfall was fairly light with only 30 mm spread over 10 days. The month was dominated by a two week dry spell between July 8th and 19th that saw no rain and warm temperatures as a strong upper ridge persisted over the western Prairies allowing temperatures to soar into the upper thirties over Alberta and Saskatchewan. As if on queue, the month ended with vivid thunderstorms on the evening of the 31st which marked the leading edge of noticeably cooler air to start the month of August.
