The summer warmth of August continued into the first part of September with above normal temperatures into the second week of the month culminating with a maximum of 30.9C on the 8th. By mid September however the weather pattern was changing to a cooler regime, with a shift to below normal temperatures over the last half of the month. Temperatures were especially cool during the last week of September when the thermometer failed to rise above 13C after the autumnal equinox on the 23rd. Normal highs by the end of September are 15C. The season's first frost occurred on the 23rd (-0.7C) with the season's first snowflurries on the 29th. (no accumulation) The month was an almost mirror reflection of March, when winter cold in the first half turned to springlike warmth in the second half, coincident with the vernal equinox. Precipitation for the month was slightly below normal, the 4th month in a row of below normal precipitation. Precipitation for the month totaled 45 mm at my location, compared to the long term average of 52 mm. However, there were a large number of days with precipitation (17) indicating most of the precipitation that fell was light, but frequent. This was especially true over the last half of the month which featured 11 of the 17 days with precipitation. The windiest day of the month was on the 24 when a peak gust of 58 km/h from the north was recorded at my site (74 km/h at Winnipeg Airport)
