After a snowy and cold January, the weather turned more tranquil in February with moderating temperatures and a lack of any major storm systems. Temperatures were coldest at the beginning of the month on the tail end of a record cold outbreak at the end of January. However by the second week of February temperatures were rising above normal values. After a brief cold snap in the middle of the month, temperatures were consistently above normal for the second half of the month, especially after the 18th when temperatures failed to fall below the -10C mark at my location. This brought the monthly average some 3 degrees above normal for February. Snowfall was minimal during the month, which came as a relief to snow-weary Winnipeggers after the above average snowfall in January. About 15 cm of snow fell at my location during the month, with the heaviest one day fall of only 4 cm on the 29th (although heaver amounts up to 10 cm were reported over southeastern parts of the city) Mild temperatures in the last week helped reduce the snow pack from 45 cm to 35 cm by the end of the month.
