July 2005 was characterized by generally warm and stormy weather, especially in the first half of the month. The monthly rainfall total of 158 mm was over twice the July average, and coming off a wet June, led to many flooding problems in and around the city. Precipitation was dominated by 3 major thunderstorms on the 10th, 16-17th and 30th which accounted for 2/3 of the monthly total. The storm on the night of the 16th was particularly severe with over 100 mm of rain reported in the south end of the city along with damaging winds that felled many trees in the north end. Unlike last year, however, the wet weather was also accompanied by a generous amount of heat and humidity during the month with several spells of hot weather. At my site, there were at least 7 days with highs of 30C or more, leading to a monthly average about 1 degree above normal. Extremes for the month ranged from a high of 32.3C on the 10th to a low of 6.8C on the 29th.
