Fall-Like Weather Moves In

An Arctic ridge will bring chillier, fall-like conditions to Winnipeg over the next few days.

Cooler temperatures will be in place this morning across southern Manitoba as an Arctic ridge continues its trek across the province. The city will see sunshine give way to some afternoon cloudiness today with breezy north-northwest winds near 20 km/h. Temperatures will be cool with a high of just 20°C. The clear skies will continue tonight with a low near 6°C and diminishing winds.

On Thursday, more seasonal temperatures will return to the region as the Arctic ridge moves off into Ontario. Winnipeg should see a high temperatures near 23°C with a southeasterly wind near 20 km/h developing in the afternoon. Skies will stay mainly sunny through the day. The city will see a few clouds overnight as temperatures dip to a low near 12°C.

Cloud cover will push in early on Friday as a large trough of low pressure moves towards the region. It will be a moderately windy day with southerlies into the 30 gusting 50 km/h range developing in the morning. The chance for showers–along with a slight risk of a thunderstorm–will continue right through the night. Winnipeg will see a mild low on Friday night near 17°C.

Long Range Outlook

A rather unsettled weekend is on tap for much of southern Manitoba. The slow-moving upper trough is forecast to produce several rounds of showers and/or thunderstorms over the region Friday night through Tuesday. Temperatures look to hover near seasonal values with southerly winds on Saturday turning northwesterly for the first half of next week.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 24°C while the seasonal overnight low is 11°C.

Sunny and Seasonably Cool Weather Ahead

Winnipeg will see plenty of sunshine over the next three days with daytime highs falling into the low 20s.

It will be a beautiful start to the week in Winnipeg as temperatures climb to a seasonal 25°C under plenty of sunshine. A weak ridge of high pressure over the region will keep winds light as well; the city will see generally westerly winds of 10 to 20 km/h.

An approaching low will trigger a few showers and/or thunderstorms this afternoon over western parts of the province. Heading into the evening, this area of instability will shift eastwards into the Red River Valley, bringing scattered showers with a risk of thunderstorms later in the evening. This activity should clear out overnight with temperatures dipping to a low near 13°C.

Any remaining cloud will clear out early Tuesday morning as a ridge of high pressure builds in from the northwest. This ridge will bring the city plenty of sunshine over the next couple days with highs in the low 20s. Winds will be breezy out of the northwest both days; Tuesday should see them strengthen to 30 gusting 50 km/h followed by lighter winds on Wednesday of 20 to 30 km/h. Both nights will bring lows in the high single-digits.

Long Range Outlook

Temperatures should rebound back to seasonal values for Thursday as the ridge moves off to the east. Heading into the weekend, it looks like a large upper trough will swing towards the region, bringing several chances for rain or thunderstorms through the weekend.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 24°C while the seasonal overnight low is 11°C.

Warm End To The Work Week Gives Way to Unsettled Saturday

After a warm end to the week, Winnipeg will see mixed skies and cooler weather for the weekend.

Temperatures will climb into the upper 20s in Winnipeg today as a seasonably warm air mass moves through the region. Under mainly sunny skies and with light winds, Winnipeg will see a high near 28°C this afternoon. A trough of low pressure will move through overnight bringing mixed skies and a mild low near 16°C.

A cold front will move through early Saturday morning and usher in west-northwest winds of 20 to 30 km/h. Behind the front, skies will stay mostly cloudy for the rest of the day. A secondary disturbance moving across North Dakota will bring a chance of showers on Saturday afternoon as an area of rain extends northwards and moves across the Red River Valley into the Whiteshell. All these things together will result in seasonably cool temperatures with a high near 22°C. Skies will clear and the wind will ease on Saturday evening as temperatures head to a low near 10°C.

A disturbance moving through the region on Saturday may spread showers into the Red River Valley in the afternoon.

Sunday will bring a return to normal temperatures with a high near 25°C. As it warms up, southwesterly winds of 20 to 30 km/h will develop alongside mixed skies. After a pleasant afternoon, winds will ease and skies will gradually clear as temperatures head to a low near 14°C on Sunday night.

Long Range Outlook

The beginning of next week looks to start with a fair amount of sunshine and near-seasonal temperatures. Some forecast models show the potential for showers both Monday and Tuesday nights, but confidence is low right now.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 25°C while the seasonal overnight low is 12°C.

Pleasant Summer Weather Ahead

Winnipeg will see a stretch of pleasant summer weather through the second half of the work week.

Seasonably warm weather will be in place for Winnipeg over the next few days with highs near or above average. Starting with a high near 25°C today, temperatures will slowly climb into the upper 20’s for the end of the week. Overnight lows start at a near-seasonal 13°C tonight and then increase into the mid-teens for the rest of the week.

Of the next few days, Winnipeg will see variable cloudiness with mainly sunny to mixed skies. As far as chances for rain, the days look good but both tonight and Thursday night bring chances of light showers moving through as weak disturbances ripple across the region. On Friday, a cold front will sweep across the Red River Valley through the evening, bringing a more organized chance of showers with it.

Winds will be light over the next couple days, generally picking up out of the west to southwest into the 15 to 25 km/h range during the day. On Friday, winds may end up on the lower end of that range out of the southwest.

So all in all, a bit of a mixed bag, but with much of the cloud and shower chances relegated to the nights it will be fairly pleasant set of days! No humid conditions are in the forecast.

Long Range Outlook

Cloudier conditions will move in behind the cold front on Saturday along with cooler temperatures with highs in the low 20s. After that, it looks like a return to seasonal temperatures with generally sunny conditions and comfortable humidity.
