Sunny Friday Leads Into An Unsettled Start To The Weekend

Seasonal warmth returns for a beautiful Friday before cloudier conditions arrive this weekend.

Temperatures will return to seasonal values today in Winnipeg as the cooler weather of the last couple days shifts off to the east. A warm front will work its way across the region today, sending temperatures towards a high near 27° in Winnipeg. Winds will stay light out of the south with mainly sunny skies, making for a beautiful summer day.

Skies will become more mixed this evening with a light southerly wind. Temperatures will be much warmer that the last couple nights with a low near 15°C.

On Saturday, a cold front slowly slumping southeastwards will thicken up the cloud cover over the city. Temperatures should still be fairly warm with a high near 25°C. As the front passes through midday, it will bring a chance of showers to the region that will persist into the evening hours. Winds will be light before the front passes, then pick up out of the north into the 20 to 30 km/h range midday. The chance of thunderstorms looks low and it’s unlikely that there will be any widespread rain accumulations

The wind will ease in the evening with mixed to mostly cloudy skies continuing through the night. Winnipeg will see a low near 13°C.

There’s a bit of forecast divergence for Sunday, particularly with how much sun the region will have. It looks most likely that Winnipeg will see mainly cloudy skies for much of the day, however if things end up a tad south the city could see more along the lines of mixed skies. A light northerly wind will keep temperatures on the cooler side again with a high near 23°C.

More cloud will move in on Sunday night with a low near 13°C again.

Long Range Outlook

Early indications are that next week will kick off with rather unsettled conditions as a low pressure system moves across North Dakota. Rain with the risk of thunderstorms will be possible Monday into Monday night for much of southern Manitoba. After that system passes, the region will likely see another couple days of cooler weather before seasonal conditions return.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 26°C while the seasonal overnight low is 13°C.

Cool Spell Leads Into Seasonable Weekend

Winnipeg will see seasonably cool conditions over the next couple days, but summer warmth returns for the weekend.

Cooler temperatures are in place for the Red River Valley today as an Arctic air mass pushes in from the northwest. Temperatures will climb to a below-seasonal 23°C in Winnipeg today with northwest winds of 30 gusting 50 km/h. The city will see plenty of sun through the day with just partly cloudy skies across the region. A sprawling high pressure system moving into the province will bring low temperatures near 9°C with light winds.

Much of the Canadian Prairies will experience seasonably cool conditions today.

On Thursday, the high pressure system will continue to slowly push eastwards into the province. The city will see mainly sunny skies with northwesterly winds once again near 30 gusting 50 km/h. Winds will ease in the evening as the high pressure system moves into southern Manitoba. Temperatures will dip to a low near 9°C under clear skies.

On Friday, a light southerly return flow will develop as the high exits the region. This will allow warmer temperatures to build back into the region; Winnipeg will see highs climb back up into the upper 20s, likely around 28°C. The city will continue to see plenty of sun, but a few clouds will likely be in place across the region. Temperatures will head to a low near 16°C on Friday night under partly cloudy skies.

Long Range Outlook

The weekend will bring near-seasonal temperatures to the Red River Valley with variable cloudiness. Early indications are that thunderstorms may be possible across the region Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 26°C while the seasonal overnight low is 13°C.

A Bit More Warmth Before Mid-Week Pattern Change

Winnipeg will see a couple more days with highs in the upper 20s before a significant pattern change mid-week brings seasonably cool temperatures back to the region.

It will be a beautiful holiday Monday in Winnipeg today with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will climb to a high near 28°C with comfortable humidity levels. Winds will pick up into the 20 to 30 km/h range later this morning. The city will see winds ease this evening as temperatures head to a low near 16°C overnight.

Tuesday will bring more sunshine to the region, but a low pressure system and cold front will approach late in the day. Before it arrives, the city should see plenty of sunshine with temperatures climbing to a high near 29°C. Northwest winds will pick up into the 20 to 30 km/h range in the morning after the warm-sector trough moves through the area. A cold front will slump southwards into the region through the afternoon, bringing mixed skies with scattered showers and risk of a thunderstorm through the evening hours. This system is not expected to produce a severe weather threat. Skies will then clear overnight with winds easing as a ridge of high pressure builds towards the province.

Tuesday will bring one more day of hot weather before a cold front ushes in a seasonably cool air mass from the north.

Wednesday will bring partly cloudy skies to the region and seasonably cool conditions. Temperatures will climb to only around 22°C with breezy northwest winds of 30 gusting 50 km/h. A light breeze will continue overnight as temperatures dip to a low near 11°C.

Long Range Outlook

There is a strong consensus that the region will continue to see seasonably cool temperatures over the next week or longer. Behind Tuesday’s system, a slow-moving vortex is forecast to develop over Hudson Bay, resulting in a persistent zonal to northwesterly flow aloft over Manitoba.

Sweltering Summer Heat Ahead

Winnipeg will see sweltering temperatures this weekend with temperatures set to climb above 30°C for several consecutive days.

A building upper ridge will send temperatures in Winnipeg soaring today. Under mainly sunny skies, the city will see a daytime high near 32°C. A weak ridge of high pressure should keep winds light and the humidity at comfortable levels. Light southerly winds will pick up tonight with a warm low near 20°C.

On Saturday, southerly winds near 20 to 30 km/h will bring a muggier air mass into the region. Temperatures will continue to be hot with a high near 33°C. The morning will be sunny, but partly cloudy skies will likely develop in the afternoon as a weak trough moves through. Temperatures will cool to a low near 19°C on Saturday night with mostly clear skies.

A cold front will push through the region early Sunday morning, bringing with it a chance of showers or thunderstorms. A breezy northwest wind up to 30 gusting 50 km/h will develop through the day, ushering in a slightly drier air mass. Behind the front, skies will clear as temperatures climb to a high near 30°C. Winnipeg will see a low near 15°C on Sunday night under mainly clear skies.

Long Range Outlook

Next week will bring a return of more seasonal temperatures with daytime highs in the mid-20s. Winnipeg will see partly cloudy conditions through the first half of the week with no significant storm threats through the first few days of the week.
