Warm With A Chance of Showers

Winnipeg will continue to see mild spring weather with a chance of showers on Saturday morning.

A low pressure system crossing the central Prairies today will result in southerly winds up to 40 gusting 60 km/h developing in the Red River Valley. These breezy conditions will draw warmer air northwards, resulting in one of the warmer spring days so far this season. The temperature in Winnipeg will climb to around 20°C this afternoon with a partly cloudy skies. The wind will gradually ease tonight with more cloud spreading into the region ahead of an approaching cold front. Winnipeg will see a low temperature near 8°C.

The region will see a chance of showers beginning late Friday night through Saturday morning as the cold front moves through. Once it passes, Winnipeg will see sunnier skies for the afternoon with northwesterly winds near 30 gusting 50 km/h. Temperatures will return to seasonal values behind the cold front with a high near 12°C in Winnipeg. The wind will taper off Saturday evening, leaving the city with a few clouds as temperatures head to a low near +3°C.

Sunday will bring partly cloudy skies to the city again with light winds and a high near 15°C. There’s a slight chance of afternoon showers along a weak surface trough stalled over western Manitoba into the Red River Valley. The region will see a few clouds overnight as temperatures drop to a low near +1°C.

Long Range Outlook

Next week will start off with plenty of sunshine and seasonal to slightly above-seasonal temperatures. Some rain is possible mid-week as a surge of warmer air pushes eastwards. After that moves through, Winnipeg will likely see highs in the upper teens with variable cloudiness.

Warm Temperatures Continue Through The Week

Above-seasonal temperatures under variable cloudiness will persist in Winnipeg through the rest of the work week.

Winnipeg’s weather story for the rest of the week will be one that sees the region grazed by disturbances passing to the south and to the north. The city won’t see much chance of precipitation as these move by, but they will provide plenty of cloud over the next three days.

The city will see mostly cloudy skies today as a low pressure system crosses the American Plains towards Lake Superior. The organized rain associated with this system will stay south of the border, but there may be a few showers that extend from southwestern Manitoba into the Red River Valley. These showers will likely miss the city and stay further south in the valley. The city will see a high near 13°C with light winds. Some of that cloud will break up tonight, allowing temperatures to drop to a low near +2°C.

Thursday will bring mixed skies to the region as the cloud from the American system continues to clear out but more cloud begins pushing in from the west. The wind should continue to be light and temperatures will be pleasant with a high near 15°C. During the #WPGWhiteout party, it looks like temperatures will be around 13°C for the start of the game. Temperatures will cool to around 8°C by the time the game ends. A bit of cloud will push in overnight as the city heads to a low near +3°C.

Skies will cloud back over on Friday as the next disturbance tracks across the northern Prairies. As it approaches, southerly winds will increase to 30 gusting 50 km/h. These southerly winds will draw milder air northwards from the United States. As a result, Winnipeg will see temperatures climb to a high near 17°C despite the cloudy skies. A low pressure system moving into southern Manitoba on Friday night will then spread a chance of rain into the region overnight. The wind will keep up much of the night, finally tapering off on Saturday morning. Because of the cloudy and breezy conditions, Winnipeg will see a mild low near 8°C on Friday night.

Long Range Outlook

Saturday will bring the chance of rain to the city as a low pressure system moves through the region. After it exits the region Saturday evening, variable cloudiness with near-seasonal temperatures will move in to end the weekend and kick off the work week.

Cool, Cloudy Weather Ahead

Winnipeg will continue to see seasonably cool temperatures with more cloud cover on the way.

A major winter storm over the American Plains will dominate the weather story for the entire region over the next few days. While Winnipeg and the Red River Valley won’t see any precipitation from this system, it will still shape conditions here for the rest of the week.

Today, the city will see mixed skies with scattered flurries as a band of cloud pushes westwards across the region. Northeasterly winds near 20 km/h will keep temperatures cool today with a high near 5°C. Variable cloudiness will continue tonight with temperatures dipping to around -5°C.

Winnipeg may see a bit of sun on Thursday morning, but clouds will push northwards from the U.S. into the region through the day. Once the skies cloud over, it’ll stick around right into the weekend. Both Thursday and Friday will bring daytime highs near 5°C with continuing northeasterly winds. Both Thursday and Friday nights should bring near-seasonal lows around -3°C.

Long Range Outlook

Some sun should finally poke out on Saturday and stick around for the rest of the weekend. Temperatures will return to seasonal values making for the return of pleasant spring weather!
