RDPS 2m Temperature Forecast valid 21Z Sunday January 8, 2023
Seasonably mild temperatures will continue across the southern Prairies this weekend.

A weak disturbance that moved through the eastern Prairies the last couple days has brought more cloud back to southern Manitoba today along with slightly cooler temperatures. Daytime highs will climb close to the -10 °C mark today with light winds. Cloudy skies will stick around through the day with a bit of light snow. Morning fog patches will dissipate through the day, either lifting with the warming temperatures or eroding with the light snow.

Temperatures will dip down to around -15 °C tonight with some breaks in the cloud cover beginning to develop. A bit more light snow will be possible. Fog won’t be as likely tonight as a southwest wind up to 20 km/h develops overnight.

On Saturday, the cloud cover will begin to break up as southerly winds strengthen closer to 30 km/h. Temperatures will warm up closer to -5 °C in the afternoon with skies clearing late in the day.

A surge of warmer weather will move through the region for the rest of the weekend and into the start of next week. Sunday will bring a high in the -5 to 0 °C range with some cloud cover working into the region later in the day. Temperatures will head down to a low near -10 °C on Sunday night with partly cloudy skies.

Long Range Outlook

The upper ridge will flatten out to a more zonal pattern next week, which will keep milder temperatures around but will bring cloudier skies. Daytime highs will hover in the -5 to -10 °C range next week with overnight lows dipping down just a bit below -10 °C.

All in all, just great winter weather for this time of year. Get out and enjoy it! Who knows if we’ll be plunging back to the -30s next month!

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is -13 °C while the seasonal overnight low is -24 °C.

Beautiful Winter Weather Ahead

Winnipeg will see beautiful conditions this week with more sun and seasonably mild temperatures.

RDPS 2m Temperature Forecast valid 21Z Wednesday January 4, 2023
2023 is off to a pleasant start with seasonably mild conditions continuing across the Prairies this week.

With the polar vortex in Canada’s eastern Arctic and retreating northwards, it’s nothing but beautiful weather ahead for southern Manitoba. An upper ridge will build over the western Prairies and then move across the region this week. This will bring sunnier conditions — though a few clouds will likely be seen at times through the week — and seasonably mild conditions.

Daytime highs in Winnipeg will generally sit on the cooler side of the -5 to -10 °C range over the next few days with overnight lows in the mid-minus teens. Winds will be light, eventually shifting to southerly at 15 to 25 km/h towards the later half of the week. No snow is in the forecast.

Really, nothing to complain about. Sunshine and seasonably mild temperatures are a treat for January in this part of the world!

Long Range Outlook

Heading into the weekend some more cloud will push into the region as a stronger southerly flow develops on the back-side of a departing high pressure centre. No snow is in the forecast, and temperatures will continue to sit at seasonably mild values right into next week.

Enjoy this extended stretch of great winter weather across southern Manitoba!

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is -13 °C while the seasonal overnight low is -23 °C.

Quiet and Mild Weather Ahead for the Weekend

The weather will quiet down across southern Manitoba this weekend with mild temperatures and mostly cloudy conditions.

RDPS 2m Temperature Forecast valid 21Z Saturday December 31, 2022
It will be a mild end to 2022 with daytime highs climbing into the -5 to -10 °C across southern Manitoba on Saturday.

A slack westerly flow aloft will be the main guide for the weather over the next few days. This upper-level pattern will keep the Arctic air at bay up north and allow daytime highs to reach relatively mild values in the -5 to -10 °C range. A weak ridge of high pressure moving through the area today will bring some sun to the region, but cloudier skies will return for the weekend.

There won’t be any notable snowfalls in the coming days, but a few flakes can’t be ruled out when the cloud rolls in for the weekend.

Overnight lows will tend to sit in the -10 to -15 °C range, but will drop closer to -20 °C if, or when, any clear patches are able to form.

Long Range Outlook

It will largely be much of the same next week, though some cooler near-seasonal temperatures may arrive mid-week with a trend towards sunnier conditions. It looks like more warmth and cloudy skies will return for next weekend. No significant snowfall is in the forecast.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is -13 °C while the seasonal overnight low is -23 °C.

Snowy Mid-Week Warm-Up Ahead

A couple of disturbances moving across the Prairies will bring snow and seasonably mild weather to Winnipeg this week.

RDPS 2m Temperature Forecast valid 21Z Wednesday December 28, 2022
Milder weather will spread through southern Manitoba on Wednesday with daytime highs just a few degrees below freezing.

The first of two systems that will bring warmer temperatures has pushed into the Red River Valley overnight. Temperatures have warmed up towards -10 °C through the night as light snow moved across much of southern Manitoba. Any lingering snow will taper off early this morning as temperatures climb up to a high near -7 °C. The only accumulating snow left in the area today will stay well to the north through the Interlake eastwards to the Ontario border where another 2–5 cm is likely.

Just as quickly as this system leaves, another will begin pushing in from the west. Cloudy skies will continue into the night, followed by more snow as the next low pushes across Saskatchewan. Snow will push across the Red River Vallye after midnight as temperatures will rise to around -5 °C by Wednesday morning.

The snow will again taper off early in the day as it pushes off to the northeast. Snowfall totals across the region will vary with only around 2 cm over the southern Red River Valley and 5–10 cm over western Manitoba southwards to the Trans-Canada Highway corridor. The City of Winnipeg will likely get 4–8 cm of snow with this system. Temperatures will climb to a few degrees below freezing on Wednesday afternoon, then dip slightly on Wednesday night back towards -5 or -6 °C.

Cloudy skies will continue into Thursday, but light northwest winds will start to drag cooler temperatures back into the region. Temperatures will fall through the day towards -10 °C with a chance of some flurries. Temperatures will dip into the mid-minus teens by Friday morning with some clear breaks developing overnight.

Long Range Outlook

The region will see near-seasonal temperatures through the weekend with variable cloudiness. No notable weather system swill be moving though, so all in all it will be a relatively pleasant New Year’s Eve and start to the new year. Daytime highs will hover in the -10 to -15 °C range with overnight lows also in the minus teens.

Long-range weather models are showing the potential for some light snow to start off next week along with another wave of milder temperatures.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is -12 °C while the seasonal overnight low is -22 °C.
