Cool Start To The Work Week

November is off to a seasonably cool start as highs in the low single digits send cloud cover streaming off the Manitoba Lakes.

A brisk northwesterly wind will keep temperatures cool and skies cloudier in Winnipeg. The city will see temperatures climb only to around 3 °C today with mixed skies as low cloud streams southwards off the Manitoba Lakes. The lakes are also producing some rain showers/snow flurries, but the winds should keep that activity out of the city. Breezy northwest winds of 30 gusting 50 km/h will pick up late morning and make for a rather chilly afternoon.

The winds will ease this evening as they shift a bit more westerly. This change in direction may end up bringing a few snow flurries into the city from Lake Manitoba overnight. Temperatures will dip to a low near -3 °C with cloudier skies.

An Arctic high will bring cold temperatures to the southern Prairies on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, the wind will continue to shift westerly and ease as an Arctic ridge slumps into the region. This will bring partly cloudy skies to the city with a high around 2 °C. Skies will clear out on Tuesday night, allowing temperatures to plummet to one of the coldest nights of the season. Lows will dip to around -9 °C.

Winnipeg will see sunny skies on Wednesday with temperatures recovering to around +4 °C. It will be a nice day with light winds. Temperatures will dip back down towards -6 °C or so on Wednesday night.

Long Range Outlook

The second half of the week will see a collapse of the upper low sitting over NW Ontario while an upper ridge builds across the Prairies. This will bring a new push of mild Pacific air into the region. Daytime highs will climb back towards the 10 °C mark by the end of the week. Conditions should stay dry until cooler air begins pushing back into the region sometime in the middle of next week.

Mild Friday Gives Way to Late Fall Chill

Warmer weather will stick around for one more day in Winnipeg before a major pattern change brings seasonal conditions back to the region.

Temperatures will continue to climb well above seasonal averages in Winnipeg today. Under partly cloudy skies, southerly winds up to 30 gusting 50 km/h will push highs up to around 11 °C. A low pressure system tracking across the Prairies will push cloud cover into the region tonight as temperatures dip to a low near 7 °C.

The pattern change begins on Saturday as the aforementioned low crosses the province. Winnipeg will see cloudy skies as winds shift northwesterly through the day. Those winds will strengthen up to 40 gusting 60 km/h in the afternoon. This system will bring a chance of showers to the region, but the bulk of precipitation will fall to the north. Temperatures will hover around the 7 °C mark through the day, then drop quickly in evening as colder air begins filtering southwards into the region. Temperatures will dip to low around the freezing mark with northwest winds of 20–30 km/h.

A low pressure system will spread rain across potions of southern Manitoba on Saturday.

In the wake of the low, the cool air and northwesterly winds will generate quite a bit of low cloud and precipitation that streams off the Manitoba Lakes. This should keep skies mostly cloudy in Winnipeg on Sunday, and depending on the exact wind directions, the city may end up seeing some snow flurries or rain showers through the day. Temperatures will slowly rebound to a high around 4 °C with breezy northwest winds near 30 gusting 50 km/h.

The winds will finally ease on Sunday night as temperatures dip to a low near -1 °C.

Long Range Outlook

Cloudier conditions will continue through the first half of next week as cool temperatures and northwest winds continue to produce cloud off the Manitoba Lakes. With the air mass over the region continuing to gradually cool, the chance for rain showers or snow flurries will likely continue through the first part of the week.

Conditions will settle for the second half of the week as winds shift westerly, but temperatures will stay near or slightly below seasonal values for the rest of the week.

Mild Weather Continues Despite Unsettled Wednesday

Winnipeg will continue to see seasonably mild temperatures even as a disturbance moves through the province today.

It’s back to cloudy skies in the city today with rain lifting northwards out of the Dakotas. Period of rain will begin later this morning in Winnipeg with 5–10 mm possible by the end of the day. Heavier rain will fall to the east with 10–20 mm likely over the eastern Red River Valley into the southeastern corner of the province. Despite the rain, it will be seasonably warm today with a high near 9 °C. The breezy southeasterly winds in the area this morning will diminish through the day.

The rain will shift off to the east tonight, but skies will stay cloudy for the rest of the night. Temperatures will dip to a low near 4 °C.

Rain will spread through much of eastern Manitoba over the next 24 hours with many areas seeing at least 5–10 mm.

Thursday will continue to be seasonably warm in Winnipeg. Temperature swill climb back to around 11 °C with northwest winds near 20 km/h. Skies will be cloudy for much of the day, but some clearing should work its way in through the afternoon. Skies should completely clear out in the evening as a ridge of high pressure moves over the region. Temperatures will dip below the freezing mark on Thursday night.

And finally, to wrap up the work week, Friday will bring beautiful late-October weather to the area. With plenty of sunshine temperatures will climb to a high near 12 °C. Winds will be breezy out of the south at 30–40 km/h, though. A few clouds will begin working into the region in the afternoon as the next low pressure system begins its approach.

Cloudier skies will move in for Friday night and Winnipeg will see a chance of showers as the low crosses the province. Temperatures will once again stay mild with a low near 5 °C.

Long Range Outlook

Behind Friday’s low, Arctic air will flood across the Prairies and usher seasonal to below-seasonal temperatures into the region. Breezy northwest winds will send temperatures into the low single digits by the end of the weekend. The surge of colder air will generate a lot of lake-effect precipitation — both rain and snow — that will affect the region for several days. The return to cooler conditions looks to continue through the rest of next week.

Winnipeg To See A Windy Return to Seasonably Warm Conditions

A surge of mild Pacific air will bring pleasant fall conditions back to Winnipeg, but it will get rather windy as it does so.

It will be a beautiful start to the week for late-October in Winnipeg today. A lingering ridge of high pressure will bring the city plenty of sunshine as temperatures climb to a high near 9 °C. As the warm air slowly approaches from the west, winds will begin to pick up over the Red River Valley. Winnipeg should see southeasterlies strengthen to 30 gusting 50 km/h by the afternoon. Those winds will continue tonight as the warm air pushes east and cloudier conditions move into the region. The city will see a low near +4 °C.

The winds in the Red River Valley will ratchet up to around 50 gusting 70 km/h on Tuesday as the clouds thicken up. Temperatures will be seasonably mild with a high near 11 °C. Some rain will likely move through western Manitoba, but here in the Red River Valley it should stay dry through the day. It will be cloudy on Tuesday night in Winnipeg with a mild low near 7 °C.

On Wednesday, an area of rain will push out of the Dakotas into southeastern Manitoba. It’s likely that a portion of the Red River Valley will get clipped by this system. Winnipeg will also see a chance of showers with this system, but with the rain mainly moving by to the east, it may be a miss or just a glancing shot. Daytime highs will again climb to around 10 °C with southerly winds of 20–30 km/h. The rain will move out evening, leaving behind gradually clearing skies and a low near +2 °C.

Long Range Outlook

Mild conditions will continue through the second half of the work week with more sunshine. Another disturbance will move through on Saturday and bring a chance of showers with it. Behind that, northwesterly winds will usher a more seasonal air mass back into the region for the following week.
