Cold Front Brings Seasonal Temperatures

After a warm Friday, a cold front will slump through the region and usher seasonal temperatures back into the region.

It will be a beautiful late-summer day in Winnipeg today as breezy southerly winds ease this morning and temperatures head to a high in the upper 20s. Skies should be partly cloudy through the day, but trend cloudier towards the evening as a cold front approaches. As the front pushes through, it will bring a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm to the region, followed by northwest winds picking up to around 30 km/h. Those winds will gradually ease into the evening as temperatures head to a low near 10 °C.

Southern Manitoba will see a warm late-summer day on Friday before more seasonal temperatures return.

An area of high pressure associated with an air mass of more seasonal temperatures will build into the province through the weekend. On Saturday, northwesterly winds will pick back up to around 30 gusting 50 km/h as temperatures head to a high around the 20 °C mark. Skies should stay mainly sunny through the day. The winds will taper off in the evening, then temperatures will head to a low near 6 °C under clear skies.

On Sunday, the area of high pressure will move across the province. Temperatures will again climb to a high around the 20 °C mark, but winds will be much lighter. Skies will also likely be mixed as a bit of cloud from a system passing by through the Dakotas drifts across the region. Skies should clear on Sunday night with a low near 10 °C again.

Long Range Outlook

The extended outlook continues to show near-seasonal temperatures, trending slightly on the warmer side. A system passing through the region may bring some afternoon/evening showers on Monday, then the city should see another couple of nice days. A few showers are possible again in the second half of the work week.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 19 °C while the seasonal overnight low is 7 °C.

Late-Summer Warmth Persists

Temperatures will head back towards the upper 20s as the new school year gets started.

An upper ridge building across the Prairies will bring plenty of sun to Winnipeg through the rest of the week. Skies will stay fairly sunny right through Friday with just a few cloudy periods. As that upper ridge builds eastwards, temperatures will also climb with highs increasing from the low 20s today to near the 30 °C mark by Friday. With little humidity around, overnight lows will range from the high single digits to the low teens.

Warm summer temperatures will return to southern Manitoba by Friday.

That northwest wind will return today, although not as strong as the city saw yesterday. The wind will pick up through the morning hours to 30 gusting 50 km/h for the rest of the day. Once the sun goes down this evening, the winds will quickly ease. A surface ridge moving across the province will keep winds light out of the south on Thursday. Then on Friday, the southerlies will strengthen back to around 30 km/h as a low pressure system moves into the province.

The region will stay dry through much of the week, although there is a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms on Friday night.

Long Range Outlook

A cold front will pass through the region on Friday night, ushering in a cooler air mass for the weekend. Highs will fall into the upper teens with a brisk northwest wind on Saturday that eases for Sunday. Skies will be mixed to mostly cloudy through the weekend.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 20 °C while the seasonal overnight low is 8 °C.

Temperatures Soaring For the Weekend

After a week bringing welcome reprieve from the heat, more rain than Winnipeg has seen in months, and some clean air back to the region, sun and summer heat will return this weekend.

Winnipeg will see one more seasonably cool day today as an upper trough exits the region. Temperatures will climb into the low 20s with light northwest winds. A few morning clouds will clear out for the afternoon leaving sunshine and a pleasant summer day. Tonight will bring seasonal temperatures down to the low teens and clear skies.

An upper ridge will build across the province this weekend, bringing light winds on Saturday strengthening to moderate southwesterlies on Sunday. Temperatures will climb into the low to mid-30s both days with plenty of sunshine. Humidity levels should stay comfortable through the weekend.

Very warm temperatures will spread back across the southern Prairies this weekend.

This system will also bring very warm nights to the region with lows climbing to the upper teens on Saturday night and low 20s on Sunday night.

Fortunately, the region should stay smoke-free for the weekend. Smoke models show no notable smoke levels right through into Sunday. That said, there’s a chance some hazy conditions could return to the region late Sunday into Monday, sourced from the wildfires over southern British Columbia.

All in all, it will be a hot and beautiful summer weekend across southern Manitoba.

Long Range Outlook

Conditions are forecast to turn more unsettled next week beginning on Tuesday and persisting much of the week. Temperatures will gradually ease back towards seasonal values with several chances of showers or thunderstorms over a multi-day period.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 25 °C while the seasonal overnight low is 12 °C.
