Shaking Off the Arctic Chill

The Arctic air seen across southern Manitoba on Thursday is already long-gone, replaced by a push of Pacific air that will bring milder weather back to the region.

Milder temperatures will move into Manitoba today with highs climbing above the freezing mark over the southwest corner of the province.

The cold trough that brought lows in the -20s to southern Manitoba on Thursday morning has already moved well off to the east. Taking its place is a much milder westerly flow that will push Pacific air across the Prairies. This will push highs back up into the [seasonably mild] -5 to 0 °C range across southern Manitoba over the next few days.

Overnight lows will also settle to warmer values, generally in the -5 to -10 °C range.

Some patchy light freezing rain is possible across portions of southern Manitoba on Friday night.

The arrival of warmer temperatures will also bring more cloud back into the region. A trough moving across the province will bring cloudy skies later today that will stick around for the night. A few flurries or even some patchy freezing rain is possible across southern Manitoba tonight ahead of a weak cold front that moving southeastwards. Skies will clear out behind the front on Saturday with blustery northwest winds.

A weak Arctic ridge will move into Manitoba on Saturday night, bringing cooler temperatures back to the region. Lows may dip below -10 °C in Winnipeg, but the coldest temperatures will be over western Manitoba. Overnight lows in the -15 to -20 °C range will be possible in that region.

Blustery northwest winds will develop over southern Manitoba on Saturday as a weak high builds into the region.

More Pacific air will surge back across the Prairies on Sunday, bringing another push of cloud to the region. A few flurries will be possible Sunday evening as a warm front advances eastwards across southern Mantioba.

Long Range Outlook

Little change to the weather pattern is in store next week. Generally mild conditions will continue with the occasional surge of cooler air bringing brief returns to seasonal temperatures. Southern Manitoba should see sunshine to start the week, but cloudier conditions are forecast for the latter half of the week.

A change in the weather pattern may come at the end of next week. Several weather models show indications of an Alberta Clipper system moving through the eastern Prairies on Friday.

Temperatures Set to Soar This Weekend

Winnipeg will see daytime highs climb over 10 °C above seasonal normals this weekend as a surge of Pacific warmth washes over the region.

Winnipeg will see very mild November weather over the next few days. While some of the mild air is in place already, today will be a semi-typical “transition day” for the Red River Valley. Temperatures will climb to around 10 °C in the city today with breezy southerly winds near 30 gusting 50 km/h. Cloud cover should increase today, beginning with partly cloudy skies this morning giving way to mixed to mostly cloudy skies this afternoon.

The southerly winds will ease and shift westerly this evening as a trough moves through the area. Skies should clear out behind it as temperatures dip to a low near +4 °C.

With a westerly flow in place for the weekend, even warmer daytime highs will move into the region. The region will see mainly sunny skies with light west-southwest winds. The high in Winnipeg will reach 13 or 14 °C, making for an absolutely beautiful early November day. Temperatures will fall to a low near +1 °C with partly cloudy skies on Saturday night.

Very mild early November temperatures will spread across the southern Prairies this weekend.

More pleasant weather is on the way Sunday with highs back up into the low teens. Skies should be partly cloudy again with light winds. Lows will dip down again to around +1 °C.

Long Range Outlook

The beautiful weather will continue into the start of next week with highs near 10 °C on Monday and Tuesday. The overall pattern will begin to change mid-week as cooler air starts pushing southwards. Temperatures will slide back towards seasonal values with unsettled conditions through the second half of the week.

Warmth Continues Until Friday, Then Unsettled

Winnipeg will see another couple days of beautiful warm weather before a large-scale pattern change brings cooler and unsettled weather back to the region.

The upper ridge that brought highs close to the 30 °C mark yesterday will continue to bring seasonably hot conditions for a couple more days. Winnipeg will see breezy southerly winds near 30 gusting 50 km/h over the next couple days as temperatures climb to highs in the upper 20s. Solidly in the warm air, Winnipeg will see another mild low near 16 °C tonight, but temperatures will dip a tad cooler on Thursday night as the warm air begins to move off to the east. The city will see sunny skies today while Thursday will start sunny with cloud moving in through the afternoon.

A cold front will push across southern Manitoba on Thursday night.

On Friday, an upper trough moving in from the west coast will push a cold front into southern Manitoba. At the same time, a shortwave will lift out of the Dakotas and will support an area of rain that will move to the northeast. These two things combined will bring cooler, cloudier weather to Winnipeg as winds shift to the north. The city will see a high near 18 °C on Friday with a good chance of rain through the day. The chance for a bit more rain will continue on Friday night as temperatures dip to a low near 12 °C.

Long Range Outlook

Friday marks the beginning of a shift to a much more unsettled pattern that will persist through the weekend and into next week. More rain is likely this weekend with the potential for some more organized accumulations across the region. Conditions will settle with mild temperatures to start next week, then another large storm system is forecast to move in mid-week, bringing the potential for a substantial rainfall and a return to seasonal temperatures.

Sunny & Warm Days Ahead

It’s more late-season warmth ahead for Winnipeg with sunny skies and highs in the mid- to upper-20s.

An upper ridge will build over Manitoba in the coming days, bringing yet more late-season warmth to the region. Temperatures will climb into the mid- to upper-20s over the next few days with plenty of sunshine. Winds will be light today, but moderate southerlies will develop on Tuesday. The wind will pick up to around 40 gusting 60 km/h tomorrow, then ease into the 30–40 km/h range tomorrow night. The wind will stay breezy on Wednesday out of the south at 30 gusting 50 km/h.

Very warm conditions will spread across the southern Prairies on Tuesday.

Overnight lows will also be seasonably mild, dipping down into the 10–15 °C range over the coming nights.

Long Range Outlook

This pattern will begin to break down later this week as a large upper trough begins to swing into the region from the west. The warm weather will linger to the end of the work week, but with an increased chance of showers beginning on Friday. Temperatures will return to near-seasonal values this weekend with a few more chances of showers.
