Beautiful November Weather Ahead

The forecast is short and sweet to start the week: sunny and warm!

A broad upper ridge building across the Prairies has finally arrived in southern Manitoba. As a result, it will bring plenty of sunshine as temperatures climb into the low teens right through the next few days.

RDPS 2m Temperature Forecast valid 21Z Tuesday November 3, 2020
The southern Prairies will enjoy a late-year warm spell with temperatures in the teens across much of the region.

Winds will also be light through the coming days, generally no more than 15–25 km/h.

There really isn’t much to say! Enjoy this nice stretch of mild November weather!

Long Range Outlook

Conditions will turn cloudier towards the end of the week as the upper ridge begins to collapse and a couple lows track across the central Prairies. Temperatures will stay warm until Thursday, then begin cooling towards seasonal values.

Weather models are all showing a fairly potent winter storm developing this weekend in the form of a Colorado Low. There is still a large discrepancy on the track of the low, but there is good agreement that this storm could bring 20 to 30 cm of snow along a swath somewhere through the southeastern Prairies.

While there’s little agreement in where the snow will fall right now, but regardless of that, this system will usher in much cooler conditions for next week. Daytime highs will fall back below seasonal values through the first half of the week.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 3 °C while the seasonal overnight low is -6 °C.

Warm, Dry Weather Ahead

Winnipeg will continue to see seasonably mild temperatures through the rest of the week along with plenty of sunshine.

If there’s a thing that can be said for Winnipeg in 2020 — considered by many to be a bit of a tire fire of a year — is that spring and summer have generally brought pleasant weather to spend time outside. And that seasonally pleasant outside weather continues after the brief cool snap last week!

Upper ridging will gradually spread across the Prairies through the rest of the week, bringing partly cloudy to mixed skies and highs of 15–20 °C. The subsidence associated with the upper ridge will also keep things nice and dry over southern Manitoba.

Lows will dip close to freezing tonight and the low single digits on Friday night. A weak low moving through the region on Thursday night will help keep temperatures warmer with a low near 8 or 9 °C.

RDPS 2m Temperature Forecast valid 21Z Friday October 9, 2020
Seasonably warm weather will return to Winnipeg on Friday.

If there’s any downside to things, it’s that it will be a bit breezy over the coming days. The city will see northwest winds up to 30 gusting 50 km/h today that ease this evening. On Thursday, a southerly flow will strengthen ahead of an approaching low into the 30–40 km/h range. Winds will ease Thursday night. On Friday, northwest winds of 30 gusting 50 km/h will redevelop behind the departing low.

Long Range Outlook

Temperatures will briefly dip to seasonal values on Saturday as an Arctic high glances through the region. On Sunday, warmer temperatures will quickly build back into southern Manitoba with highs near 20 °C possible. Clouds will spread in through the day with showers possible to start the work week on Monday.

Temperatures are then forecast to shift seasonably cool for the rest of the work week with conditions staying on the cloudier side.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 13 °C while the seasonal overnight low is 2 °C.

Cold Snap Eases on Sunday

Winnipeg will see seasonably cool conditions last through the first half of the weekend, then warmer weather arrives on Sunday.

A series of Arctic ridges will move through over the next couple days, keeping temperatures cool across southern Manitoba. Both Friday and Saturday will bring daytime highs near 10 °C in Winnipeg and lows dipping just below freezing. The city will see light southerly winds today switching to light northerly winds on Saturday.

The city will see mixed to cloudy skies today as the cloud associated with a low to the west slumping into the Dakotas clips through the Red River Valley. The rest of the weekend will see partly cloudy skies return. There’s a small chance of an isolated shower or snow flurry overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Otherwise, the weekend should be dry.

RDPS 10m Wind Speed and MSLP Forecast valid 18Z Saturday October 3, 2020
A sprawling Arctic high will sit centred over Manitoba on Saturday.

On Sunday, an approaching low will usher in moderate southerly winds of 30–40 km/h and bring temperatures back up to a near-seasonal 12°C. This will mark the beginning of a stretch of near-seasonal temperatures that should last right through the coming week. With a warmer air mass in place, overnight lows on Sunday night will be much warmer, bottoming out around 8 °C.

Long Range Outlook

Next week will start off with some cloud on Monday, but then bring partly cloudy conditions through much of the rest of the week. Temperatures look to be fairly steady with highs in the mid-teens and lows in the 5–10 °C range. No notable precipitation is forecast for the city, however areas further north could see several chances for rain through the week.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 14 °C while the seasonal overnight low is 3 °C.

Cooler, Cloudy Wednesday Followed By Sunnier, Warmer End of Week

A weak disturbance will bring slightly cooler and cloudier weather to Winnipeg on Wednesday, but mild temperatures quickly return.

Two features will combine to bring a change in the weather to Winnipeg today. The first is a large area of high pressure tracking across the Prairies that will sprawl across Manitoba today. It will bring dry northerly winds of 20–30 km/h to the region today and cooler highs in the upper teens. The second is a weak mid-level disturbance that will move through the area. It will spread cloud cover into the Red River Valley through the morning and bring a chance of showers for the afternoon hours.

Skies will clear out in the evening with easing winds. A ridge from the high pressure system over the province will move into the Red River Valley overnight, sending lows to a seasonably chilly +3 °C.

RDPS 10m Wind and MSLP Forecast valid at 18Z Wednesday September 23, 2020
A sprawling high pressure system will bring slightly cooler temperatures to southern Manitoba today and tonight.

The warm weather quickly returns to the region on Thursday as another low begins pushing eastwards across the Prairies. Winds will pick up out of the south into the 20–30 km/h range in the afternoon as temperatures climb to a high near 23 °C. A warm front will approach through the day, bringing partly cloudy skies to the region.

Skies will stay cloudy overnight with a chance of showers as a trough and cold front successively move through the area. The combination of cloud cover and persistent south wind will keep temperatures mild with a low near 14 °C.

Friday will be another warm day in Winnipeg. The city will see a high near 24 °C with a westerly wind near 20 km/h and partly cloudy skies. Not much else to say about the day; it’ll be a nice one! Temperatures will dip to a low near 10 °C under partly cloudy skies on Friday night.

Long Range Outlook

Winnipeg will see a mild weekend with highs near 20 °C and lows around 9 °C. Both Saturday and Sunday should bring partly cloudy skies with a slight chance of rain showers on Saturday. On Sunday night, a low will begin moving through the region, bringing rain through the region and ushering in strong northerly winds and a return to seasonal temperatures.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 16 °C while the seasonal overnight low is 5 °C.
