Broken Record: Cloudy Conditions Continue

More of the same is on the way for Winnipeg as temperatures gradually climb through the rest of the week.

A stagnant flow over the eastern Prairies will keep skies mostly cloudy in Winnipeg through the next few days. While an odd patch of clearing may be possible – although these small gaps are practically impossible to forecast ahead of time – skies should stay cloudy through a vast majority of the coming days.

A weak disturbance moving through southern Manitoba will spread some light snow across the Red River Valley today. The organized snow will taper off later in the day, but the chance for flurries will continue through Thursday. Temperatures will gradually warm with highs reaching around -2°C on Friday. Lows will follow suit, climbing towards -5°C by Friday night.

The only change the region may see over the coming days is a greater likelihood of mist and fog. While it will be possible from tonight onwards, the chance is higher towards the end of the week.

Long Range Outlook

A change is finally coming to the region this weekend. A well-organized low will track across the northern Prairies, bringing westerly winds across the Prairies and clearing out some of the low-level moisture trapped in the region. Temperatures will stay near-freezing through the weekend, but then a strong cold front will sweep through the region late Sunday. Temperatures will head back towards seasonal values to start next week alongside some much-appreciated sunshine.

Cloudy, Seasonably Mild Conditions Continue

Cloudy and seasonably mild conditions continue in Winnipeg this week.

Little change in the weather lies ahead for Winnipeg as the upper air pattern stays stagnant. Broad upper ridging is bringing seasonably mild conditions to the region, but has also trapped a huge area of low cloud over the eastern Prairies. As a result, the weather will be surprisingly consistent over the coming days.

Winnipeg will see daytime highs in the -6 to -8°C range over the next few days with overnight lows dipping down into the minus teens. Winds will stay light through the next several days. With all the cloud stuck in the region, some flurries will be possible, particularly in the evening and overnight hours when the temperatures dip a bit.

Long Range Outlook

More of the same is on tap for Thursday, but by Friday the pattern begins to change and the region will transition into a more unsettled pattern. The region will still be dealing with plenty of cloud, but a bit of sun will be possible heading into the weekend. With several disturbances expected to track through the region Friday through Tuesday, there’s also a good chance of seeing some accumulating snow. Right now, the best chances for snow look to be Thursday night, Friday night, and Sunday night into Monday.

Cooler weather is forecast to push back into the region next week.

Cloudy and Mild Weather Ahead

Cloudy, seasonably mild conditions will continue through the weekend in Winnipeg.

Little change in Winnipeg’s forecast is on the horizon as a general pattern of upper-level ridging continues. Winds will pick up into the 20 to 30 km/h range on Saturday as a weak low moves towards the province. Otherwise, winds will keep light out of the south-southeast right through the weekend. Highs will hover around -6°C over the next few days with lows gradually warming.

The downside to the warm weather will be the persistent cloud over the region. While the occasional sunny break is possible over the next few days, largely cloudy conditions will persist right through the weekend. No notable precipitation is forecast in the next few days.

Long Range Outlook

Temperatures will stay mild right through next week, possibly even nudging towards the freezing mark. There may be a few chances of flurries, but it doesn’t appear that there will be any chances of accumulating snow.

Cloudy, Seasonably Mild Conditions Ahead

Winnipeg will see increasing cloud today as seasonably mild temperatures move into the region for the rest of the week.

Mild Pacific air has managed to wash over the Prairies over the past few days and will stay put for the next 5-10 days. Through the rest of this work week, Winnipeg will see highs near -7°C with overnight lows in the -10 to -15°C range.

An approaching upper trough will spread clouds into the region today and keep them around through the rest of the week. While a few flurries may be possible over the southwest corner of the province, it doesn’t look like any will make it into the Red River Valley.

Winds will also stay light over the next few days, out of the north today and tomorrow then shifting southerly on Friday.

Long Range Outlook

Another push of mild air will move across the Prairies this weekend, sending temperatures close to the freezing mark by Sunday. A few flurries may be possible with the warming temperatures. Breezy southerly winds are also likely on Saturday.
