Warm Weather and Light Snow On The Way

Winnipeg will see some more mild weather with some light snow moving through on Monday night into Tuesday.

Winnipeg will see seasonal conditions today as a weak upper ridge slides across the region. The city will see a few clouds today as temperatures climb to a high near -3 °C. The winds will pick up out of the southeast for the afternoon into the 20–30 km/h range. The southerlies will continue tonight as cloud and light snow moves into the region ahead of a low pressure system. This low will move northwards out of the Dakotas along a trough of low pressure moving towards the region tonight. The trickiest aspect to tonight’s snowfall will be the sharp western edge which should fall somewhere over the western Red River Valley. Temperatures will drop to a low near -7 °C.

The snow will gradually taper off on Tuesday morning with easing winds as the trough of low pressure moves into the Red River Valley. Total snowfall amounts will sit in the 2–4 cm range for most areas that see snow. Temperatures will be mild with a high near 0 °C with a chance of seeing the sun poke out in the afternoon. Temperatures will drop to a low near -10 °C on Tuesday night with partly cloudy skies and light winds.

A broad area of light snow will move through the Red River Valley into Northern Ontario on Monday night into Tuesday.

More cloud will spread into the region on Friday ahead of a low pressure system tracking across the northern Prairies. Seasonably mild temperatures will with a high near -2 °C in Winnipeg. Winds will pick up out of the south back into the 20–30 km/h range. Skies will stay cloudy on Wednesday night with a low near -4 °C. The winds will keep up through most of the night with a chance of some snow beginning towards Thursday morning.

Long Range Outlook

Any snow moving through on Wednesday night should taper off quickly on Thursday, followed some more pleasant late-November weather. Winnipeg should see daytime highs in the -3 to +1 range through the rest of the week with variable cloudiness. A potent winter low is forecast to cross the central Prairies on the weekend and may bring some snow to Winnipeg on Saturday night into Sunday along with a transition to seasonably cool conditions to end the weekend and start next week.

Saturday will bring mainly cloudy skies to the city again as a new disturbance tracks towards the region and cooler air slumps into the region. Highs will top out around the freezing mark today with light northwest winds. A fast moving upper-level disturbance will move into the region on Thursday evening, spreading light snow across southern Manitoba. Temperatures will dip to a low near -10 °C overnight as winds pick up out of the northwest into the 20—30 km/h range. Many areas across southern Manitoba will see 2–4 cm of snow by the time it tapers off early Friday morning.

The city should see mainly clear skies on Friday night with temperatures dropping to a low near -13 °C.

Mild air returns this weekend with highs returning to the -5 to 0 °C range right into next week. No major snowfall is in the forecast, but occasional cloud cover and light snow from the lakes will be possible..

The wind will ease in the morning as the low arrives and temperatures will climb to a high near +2 °C. The low will push out of the region on Saturday evening, ushering in northwest winds of 30–40 km/h with a good chance of some flurries through the night. Temperatures will dip to a low near -6 °C.

The breezy northwest winds will persist through much of Sunday, keeping temperatures a bit cooler with a high near -3 °C. Skies will stay mostly cloudy through the morning, but a bit of afternoon sunshine seems likely. While the broader area of flurries will move off, Winnipeg will continue to see a chance of lake-effect flurries until the winds ease off in the evening. The city should see mixed skies on Sunday night with temperatures dipping to a low near -10 °C.

More Snow on the Way

Winnipeg will see another batch of light snow beginning later today as a low pressure system pushes across the region.

It’s a clear but cool start to the day in Winnipeg with temperatures in the mid-minus teens. Temperatures will gradually climb through the morning, then pop up to around -2 °C as cloud cover moves into the region. The city might see occasional light snow as the cloud moves in, but a more organized area of snow will push into the region early this evening. The snow will continue through the night as temperatures dip to a low near -7 °C.

Light snow will continue through much of tomorrow as a northwest wind ushers in a cooler air mass and lake-effect flurries from Lake Manitoba follow the broader area of snow. By the time it tapers off later in the day, Winnipeg should see 3–6 cm of new snow from this system. Those northwest winds near 20 km/h will keep things cool with temperature barely recovering to a high near -6 °C. Clearing should push into the region on Thursday night with temperatures dipping to a low near -12 °C.

The region will see partly cloudy skies on Friday with temperatures rebounding nicely. Winnipeg’s high should reach around -1 °C and dip to only -5 °C on Friday night as more cloud cover moves in.

Long Range Outlook

Another low pressure complex consisting of a low ejecting northeastwards out of the American Plains combined with an upper-level disturbance crossing the Prairies will bring cloud and snow to the region this weekend. Temperatures will be mild with highs near the freezing mark, but light snow will likely begin again on Saturday night and continue on Sunday. Another 4–8 cm of snow may be possible with this system as it moves through.
